Cover Story (and Project 17 covers..)

Cover

If anyone is curious about the evolution of the cover for Prada and Prejudice, I did a cover story with Melissa Walker Here

Now, on to another cover feature.... While out visiting Prada & Prejudice on release day, I saw the paperback cover for Project 17. I have to admit, I kind of crinkled my nose. The hardback cover is by far my favorite-- more creepy, and it captures the atmosphere of the book better.

What do you think? Hardback cover is on the left, the new paperback cover is on the right.

If you're wondering, its about a group of teens who sneak into an old asylum (the birthplace of the lobotamy) before it gets torn down. It's very creepy!

I'm kind of partial to the paperback, because it reminds me of Supernatural, which is one of my favorite shows- but I haven't read the book yet.

I actually did stop and stare at the paperback for a minute becuase that guy on the front is HAWT. I think I'd crawl around an asylum at night if i had him to hang onto. :-D

The first cover is much better! I saw the new cover last week and I was like, "Wha?"

Personally I prefer the HC. I think in general as a reader I like not to have a photographic sense of a character's face--would rather imagine it for myself.
Saw your cover story on Mandy's website--love it!

Er, hot guy. Not sure why I made that unecessarily plural...

My question pertaining to your cover: Did the designer(s) of your book actually read it before figuring out how the cover should look?

Actually, I'm not sure-- but its pretty likely the designer read only the cover copy (the back of the book summary) and nothing more!
